Recently, Split has lost the Italian consulate which is of course not favourable for the Italians living in Dalmatia. This was the only Italian consulate in the Central Dalmatia and the Italian community has decided to write a petition and send it to the Italian government which, due to budget cuts, decided to close several consulates abroad.

The Italian government decided that the only consulates on the eastern Adriatic will be in Rijeka, Croatia, and Koper in Slovenia.
