Night of the Museums

The Night of the Museums is a cultural event taking place in Croatia for the ninth time. Croatian Museums will be open to public from 6 pm till 1 am for free. All the museums and galleries prepare special programs like concerts, exhibitions, workshops...
Split is as well one of the cities preparing interesting museum and gallery programs. Below you can read about museums in Split and what they have prepared for the Night of the Museums.

Archeology Museum - visitors will be guided through the museum by its curators; a photography exhibition will be held at 7 pm and a concert will take place later in the night. 50 % discount on museum publications.

Vasko Lipovac Atelier - Vasko Lipovac made a monument to Drazen Petrovic, the most famous Croatian basketball player, for the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. The creation of the monument will be shown through photos, videos and drawings. A concert will start at 11 pm.

Culture centre Zlatna vrata - several documentaries will be shown like "Suncani Split" (The Sunny Split) or a documentary on raising the statue of Gregory of Nin.

Ethnographic Museum - visitors can see the usual exhibits; Stipe Bozic, the famous Croatian alpinist, will give a lecture on the Himalaya climbing with videos and photos. On the square in front of the museum a sword performance will be held; history students will give a lecture on the subjects of living in the old Split. Charity organizations will sell their produce.

Studio Naranca Gallery - works of four great Croatian artists will be exhibited, Vasko Lipovac, Edo Murtic, Miroslav Sutej and Dusan Dzamonja.

Art Gallery - tours of the permanent exhibition are offered.

City Library - an exhibition will be held of the collection of Split historical artefacts donated by prominent local families. Split postcards from the beginning of the 20th century will be shown.

Crotian Maritime Museum - an exhibition of new artefacts will be shown; the 100th anniversary of the beginning of WW1 will be held as well. The museum also offers a 50% discount on its publications.

Museum of the City of Split - along with the permanent exhibition of the museum and its separate part Emanuel Vidovic Gallery, you will also be able to see the Portraits of the City exhibition. An exhibition of children's work Portraits of my city starts at 6 pm. At 9 pm a jazz band will perform. Souvenirs and museum publications will be available at special prices.

Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments - offers exhibitions Archive in Stone, Early Croatian treasury, Medieval Heritage of the island of Brac; art workshop for children, a lecture on biological anthropology, screenings of films from the International Festival of Archaeology Films.

Ivan Mestrovic Gallery - offers permanent exhibition tours, the collection of the works of Ivan Mestrovic, the greatest Croatian artist; contemporary artists Petar Barisic and Loren Zivkovic Kuljis will also have their works exhibited.
Diocletian's Palace Substructures - tourist guides will lead you through the substructures every hour starting from 6 pm.
