By Bus, there are plenty of daily bus departures between Zadar and Split. Travel time for buses following the highway route is about 2h 30m. The buses driving along the coastal road usually take 1 hour longer. If you are not in a hurry and have time to enjoy the trip I will recommend you take a bus following the coastal road. Make sure to get a seat at the right side of the bus, so you can enjoy the view. If you travel from Zadar airport you will have to travel first to the main bus station to continue to Split. By Plane, although both cities have an airport it is NOT possible to fly from Zadar to Split.
By Train, in principle it is possible to travel from Zadar to Split by train, but the train is not direct; you will have to travel first from Zadar to Knin and then Knin to Split. If the schedules is the same as prior years, the journey takes more than 7 hours, so it can only be recommended if you insist on using the train.
By ferry, there is NO ferry between Zadar and Split.

If you drive by car from Zadar to Split, you have following interesting stops you may consider to add to itinerary:
Sibenik: nice old town part with several castles and a UNESCO sight.
National park Krka: “Little Plitvice” beautiful national park by Skradin
Primosten: if you follow the coastal road, you should stop in Primosten for lunch or just to take some pictures.
Trogir: beautiful old town which is on the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage.
